Bhargavi Balasubramanian is a talented and committed performer and guru, both in vocal and instrumental music. She was initiated to vocal music by Smt Kokila Sundaram (a disciple of Lalgudi Gopala Iyer), and continued her training under Savita Narasimhan.
Bhargavi has received advanced training in vocal and chitravina from Chitravina Maestro N Ravikiran. Bhargavi has presented vocal and chitravina concerts for organizations such as Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai Fine Arts, Naada Inbam, Hamsadhwani, Carnatica, Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi Academy and Nada Sudha in India.
She has also performed in various cities in North America including New York, Boston, Dallas, Minneapolis, San Jose, San Diego and Toronto. Bhargavi was one of the lead singers in IFCM’s audio CD, “Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi’s Kamakshi Navavarana Krtis” and “Harisamarpanam”.
She has also been featured by television channels such as Podhigai, Doordarshan, Amrita, TTD and SVBC. She has also provided Chitravina support for her guru Ravikiran in special features directed and presented by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, and networks from France and Greece.
Bhargavi was the degree holder in B Com and B Music from the University of Madras, and also won the best student award for Commerce in school. She also holds an Advanced Diploma degree in Finance awarded by the ICFAI, Hyderabad and is a certified AVID Xpress Pro editor, recognized and awarded by Real Media Technologies, Chennai.
Bhargavi has edited and participated in several music related publications such as Perfecting Carnatic Music, Sada Sharanam, Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi – Life and Contributions and Navavaranams & Saptaratnas of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi and worked on special audio-visual projects for the Tamil Nadu Government.
She is also the coordinator of the International Foundation for Carnatic Music (IFCM) and has coordinated and worked in various other productions of the foundation.
